Almond & Chia Butter

Ever since I have removed grains and legumes from my diet on experiment to identify what foods trigger my horrible digestive issues such as bloating and flatulence, I have been missing my homemade no salt peanut butter….. a lot! Wait, whaaaaaaat?. Peanuts? A grain? A legume? Yep peanuts aren’t actually a nut…. they are  apart of the Fabaceae/Leguminosae family, which naturally classifies them as a legume (edible seeds inside a pod) because they grow underground, unlike almonds and walnuts, for example, which are grown on a tree. Interesting fact, I know! BUT whats so “wrong” with them? Why can they be an irritant? Like grains, legumes contain something called phytic acid or phytates. These somewhat nasties bind to nutrients within food (especially essential minerals iron, zinc and magnesium) and stop them from becoming absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, or digestive tract in less fancier words. Similarly, lectins act the same way. Lectins are proteins found in most foods and in the body,  damage the intestinal wall, contributing to possible gut related symptoms and conditions such as …

THE POWER OF AWARENESS AND FEELING

Wow, I haven’t  posted in so long! No excuses no excuses, but to be quite honest with you, I’ve  struggled to find motivation to do anything the last couple months. Since I started back at uni everything just hit me all at once, and I became a little bit lazy and even stopped exercising for a period there – and that’s not like me all! I love to keep active and fit! Within the first few weeks of February I felt the change in my body transitioning  from a relaxing holiday state into a stressful uni environment AND workplace, and I never really allowed myself to take a breath, chill out and refresh. Needless to say, I wore my body out physically, emotionally and mentally, which I now feel embarrassed to say as I always advise to listen to your body, but clearly, I sometimes even dont take my own advice.  Anyway, I ended up undoing some of my hard work and put on a few kilos because I was under nourishing myself by …

Carrot and Walnut Cake

“Whats up doc” What do you do when you have way too many carrots on hand? (Besides eating them all) Make a divine loaf of bugs bunny approved carrot cake. Carrots are a great ingredient to add to your cakes, desserts, breakfast, dinner because they are one of the richest sources of Vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin that is great for your vision and helping to boost your immune system. It is also an antioxidant which can help protect against inflammation and oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Carrots are rich in fibre, low in calories and available all year round.  Icing- I personally don’t think icing is needed because it is already sweet enough with the medjool dates, but incase you like it the traditional way: Dairy Free Icing: whip 1 cup of coconut cream until thick, add 1 teaspoon of carrot gratings with a dash of cinnamon High protein icing:  mix 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 tablespoon almond milk, ½ cup greek yoghurt, 1 tsp vanilla extract. Of course, with allergies and …

Lemon and Gingerbread Men

Christmas day is all about sharing the good stuff (aka food, of course) with your family and friends so I thought why not do some myself, and share recipes to inspire you this Christmas! They are simple, easy and quick to make and are perfect for last minute ideas or disastrous  re-makes. (let’s be honest, we have ALL been there!) The recipes come from people who have inspired me along the way and have a similar philosophy of me in nourishing the body with wholesome healthy, fresh foods.

How to Avoid The Christmas Weight Gain

Almost every year for the whole month of December I’m either cooking up treats, eating the treats (or doing them both at the same time hehe) or attending christmas parties and enjoying the celebration of Christmas, with food. A whole lotta food. But with this comes a loss of focus on training and diet and as a result a few kilos pile on. Which is completely okay because food is good and nothing in the world is better than food and family (am i right?), but the struggle to get back on the band wagon once christmas is over is very real! So this year one of my goals is to try and stay focused and on point with my training and eating AS CLOSE to Christmas as I can.. and then relax and enjoy every single mouthful of food on Christmas day without guilt, and appreciate and honor the food baby which may come my way. Christmas is my favourite time of year so there is NO CHANCE its not going to have indulgence …

Motivation Monday: How To Be Your Own Motivation

For a while know I’ve wanted to post a picture of my own body progress and transformation, but have never had the courage or balls to do so. But today, with no thoughts or care to give about the negative responses I could get that I was fearing, I posted a picture…. of myself….. half exposed…. 😐 I’m proud of how far I have come and the progress I have made, so why should I be fearful of what people think? After all, If i can inspire at least ONE person from my upload to love who they are and feel confident within their own skin no matter what size, shape, skin colour – Ive succeeded 🙂 Below is the exact extract which I’ve posted on Facebook and Instagram, so apologies if you have already seen it. Today’s MOTIVATION MONDAY is myself. On the LEFT: 4 months ago after returning from the UK. I was stressed, obsessed with how I look and didn’t love or accept who i was, was in calorie deficit and exercising too …
